KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The University of Tennessee announced Thursday Jeff Jarnigan will be the new public address announcer at Neyland Stadium.
Jarnigan will begin his new role when the Volunteers kick off the season against Utah State on August 31, replacing the legendary Bobby Denton who passed away in April after 48 years of service.
Jarnigan has served as public address announcer for men’s basketball at Thompson-Boling Arena for the past nine years as well as for the Dish Orange and White Game at Neyland Stadium for the last eight years.
He was also the announcer for the Pride of the Southland Marching Band for a 12 year span.
Jarnigan is a native of East Tennessee who attended his first Tennessee football game on October 3, 1970. Bobby Scott led the Vols to a 48-3 victory over Army that day and created a Volunteer fan for life. Jarnigan is a member of the Fulton High School Wall of Fame, along with fellow Vols Jackie Walker, Bill Justus, and Ron Widby.
“Being chosen as the public address announcer at Neyland Stadium is an honor beyond my wildest dreams,” said Jarnigan. “It is impossible to replace Bobby Denton. His voice and delivery has been as much a part of Big Orange Saturdays as the Vol Walk, running through the T and Rocky Top. My goal is to strive to continue to make the stadium experience the best in America. “
