Glaucoma Awareness

National Glaucoma Awareness Month

January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month and our team at Senior Financial Group encourages you to think about your eye health in 2018! Glaucoma, referred to as the “sight-stealing disease”, is a group of eye diseases that gradually steal sight without warning due to damage to the optic nerve. Early detection is critical to stopping the progress of this disease. There are no obvious symptoms and once vision is lost, it is permanent.

Medicare covers a glaucoma screening once every 12 months for people at high risk. Senior Financial Group encourages our clients to make use of the preventative measures available to detect any signs of glaucoma.

High-risk groups include: people of Asian, African, and Hispanic descent, people over 60 years old, family members of those already diagnosed, diabetics, and severely nearsighted people.
