3 Reasons to Work with an Independent Insurance Advisor

October 15, 2019|Insurance, Medicare2

Choosing the right Medicare plan can be an overwhelming process. An experienced insurance agent can help but, there are two types of agents to choose from, captive or independent. To simplify the process, it is important to know the differences between the two to make sure you’re talking to the right person who can best help you with your decision making.

A captive agent is an insurance company employee. This type of agent only sells their insurance company’s plans, and there are no alternative policies or options. There is a small selection of programs, and most agents work from a call center.

In comparison, an independent agent is not employed by a single insurance company but instead represents multiple companies and their plans. This type of agent can suggest different company’s plans based on your needs, offering an impartial perspective. Many independent agents are local and engaged in their community which helps establish important relationships.

Now that you know the key differences, here are three additional reasons why you should choose to work with an independent agent.

More Options
A captive agent can only sell plans offered through their company. With such a limited selection, it is hard to know if you are getting the best plan to fit your needs. By representing multiple companies, independent agents offer more options and can shop around on your behalf to find the best plans for your consideration.

One Stop Shop
You no longer need to call different agents or skim multiple websites. All the information you need is in one place. Independent agents do all the research for you, making sure they find the best plan at the right price for you.

Personal Service
Most independent insurance advisors are right in your neighborhood. They are local, small agencies who will get to know you and your family. As your personal advocate, independent agents will meet face-to-face with you to discuss all of your options. If you decide to change your plan, you don’t have to re-start the process; your advisor will help you choose the perfect plan for you.

Representing over 30 insurance companies, Senior Financial Group (SFG) is an independent insurance agency with AHIP (American Health Insurance Plans) certified agents. Our providers include Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, Cigna, Humana, United Healthcare and many more. All of our advisors are trained at-length about each provider and all of their products, making them Medicare experts.

When working with SFG, you gain not only a trusted advisor but also a personal advocate who will guide you through the creation of your own unique Medicare plan. With our extensive knowledge, we can give you unbiased and candid advice to help choose your plan. We value integrity and want you to have the plan that’s best for you. The best part about it…we do not charge for our expertise.

I will be 62 on January 10th and need to know how early do I plan on setting up a Medicare Plan and supplemental plan? My wife will be one year behind me as well. Thanks for your help! Tim

Hello Tim, We recommend taking a Medicare Seminar to learn about your healthcare options approximately 6 months prior to your 65th birthday.  You won’t be eligible for Medicare until you turn 65 unless you have a qualifying condition such as ALS or End-Stage Renal Disease. If you are retiring at 62 and need health insurance, the Marketplace is an option. Please contact us if you need assistance.
