The Difference Between Captive and Independent Agents

When choosing an insurance agent to work with regarding your Medicare options, it’s important to fully understand the roles and characteristics that come with your options. Beneficiaries have two common options: captive and independent agents. By definition…

Captive:

  • having no freedom to choose alternatives or to avoid something.
  • (of a facility or service) controlled by, and typically for the sole use of, an establishment or company.

Independent:

  • not influenced or affected by others; impartial.
  •  free from outside control; not depending on another’s authority.

Senior Financial Group (SFG) is a group of independent health insurance agents, also known as an independent insurance agency. We represent over 30 different Medicare providers (and all of their multiple plan options), such as Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, New Era, UnitedHealthcare, and many more.

All of the experienced insurance agents on our team are AHIP-certified (American Health Insurance Plans) and go through initial and continual general SFG policy training. Plus, they complete additional training through the plans they represent. They certify each year with all of these companies in order to remain licensed to sell a variety of products.

Rather than specializing in one product or company, we are master Medicare specialists. Our team is trained by outstanding agent development trainers and are equipped with integrity to match. Senior Financial Group holds our agents to the highest standard and expects nothing less than the best business practices.

If you work with a captive agent, they are bound to offer their company’s [small] selection of plans. They must sell these plans in order to get paid. Our independent team doesn’t work that way.

Having a large portfolio of plans to offer makes it easy for an agent to present a Medicare beneficiary with the best options possible for each person’s unique situation. This gives comfort to our clients to know they are receiving the best. If we don’t think we have the best solution for you, we will tell you.

When it comes to your health, you deserve the best care, coverage, and assistance available. SFG provides that year-round by continuously checking up on our clients even outside of Annual Enrollment Period. Your needs are our priority.
